NOTE: Due to the shortage of BME280 sensor here, we have changed the sensor model to BMP280. BMP280 is almost the same with BME280 except no humidity readings. If you still want the BME280 sensor module, please buy from adafruit or other suppliers.
The ESP8266 is a well-known and prevalent module in the MAKER circle. With the built-in WIFI connectivity, the module could be used in many scenarios of IOT application. The applications in electronics enthusiasts are boosted by Arduino and its libraries and the HamClock project is one of such applications based on ESP8266 and Arduino. HamClock is a ham radio information display (monitor) for ham radio operators, it collects plenty of ham radio information like Solar status, ham radio propagation predicts, ham radio spots and satellite tracking, etc… These information is then displayed on its TFT screen.
HamClock is an open source project based on Arduino and ESP8266, the project info could be found here, https://www.clearskyinstitute.com/ham/HamClock/. You can build one by yourself with the information supplied on the webpage. However, the constructing process may be frustrated for some in inexperienced builders, and the most painful point for such an excellent project is the housing(enclosure). A 3D printer or a laser cutter may not be accessible for everyone, so your version of HamClock may just be the messy wired DuPont cables, parts, modules placed on your working bench. To solve all of these, we produced this ESP8266 Dev board specially designed for HamClock project. The board can be easily plugged into the recommended 9″ TFT Display (RA8875). The board can also be powered by a cell of 18650 battery, that says you can use HamClock in the field. Nevertheless, we also designed the laser cut acrylic housing. You can put your HamClock on your radio working bench, there is a stand on the back of the housing.
If you are an experienced programmer, you can even use the board and LCD to display other information like stock value, headlines of today and so on. In general, it is a development board with a big TFT display.
NOTE:
- This is just a ESP8266 Dev Board Kit with housing (enclosure). Besides HamClock, you can use it to do anything you like if you are an experienced programmer. All copyrights of HamClock are owned by the original developer WB0OEV.
