The MSI001 and MSI2500 are really populars in SDR SWL and ham radio circles nowadays. The MSI001 is basically a single chip TV tuner front end and it is normally used in DVB and DAB field. The MSI2500 is a good companion of MSI001, they are good brothers. The MSI2500 converts the analogue baseband from MSI001 into a digital form, performs an essential digital signal processing, and streams those signals to a PC host via USB(2.0) interface. The combination of these 2 chips(MSI001 and MSI2500) could be a complete system of DTV or DAB. By adding some BPFs and switches, it could be a SDR receiver. The SDR here is what it is. Unlike the much more complicated SDRplay RSP1, we add BPFs and eliminate the automatic band switching feature for simplicity. Covering from 10kHz to 1GHz with 5 SMA antenna ports for 5 bands, they are 0-30MHz, 30-60MHz, 50-120MHz, 120-250MHz, and 250-1000MHz. Each SMA port has its specific RF filters(BPF) on board. This is just a simple solution of keeping simplicity, so you have to manually switch your antenna to other SMA ports if you change radio bands in software.

There are 2 versions of this SDR, with and without Enclosure and Tcxo. The beginner one is a single board without an enclosure and tcxo. Unlike the beginner version, the expert version has its own RF switches for switching RF bands, moreover, it has an additional LNA for signal amplification for UHF bands. Another different thing is the expert version covers from 10khz to 2GHz. Both versions are highly compatible with the most common SDR software like SDR sharp, HDSDR etc…

For the expert version, the PCB is housed in a small Compact Aluminum Housing with laser engraved logo that is solidly made and gives a professional look. On one side there is an SMA antenna connector, and on the other side there is a USB – type C connector that serves to power the device, as well as to communicate with the PC.
